This year something very exciting happened in the Ms. America pageant. This is the very first time an Indian girl has ever won this pageant. This beautiful lady is Ms. Nina Dalvuri. This really shows diversity and that America is an accepting country. Right? Not exactly. Though this is such an amazing thing, like everything happening these days, has a sad and disappointing twist.
Ms. Dalvuri had an amazing win. She wants to go to medical school and become a physician. The main reason that she joined this pageant was to celebrate diversity. I believe that is such a great thing. America is such a unique country, meaning that we are a very diverse country. We have so much to learn from each other. America would not be half the country it is now without its diversity. This represents how welcoming we are. How friendly our country can be. That is why Ms. Dalvuri joined this pageant. This was such a great opportunity to promote these virtues. Well, Nina won. YAYYYYY! Now we are one step closer to being a completely understanding country with no racism. Just as we were all thinking that the racism began.
Recently, there has been very mean things said about Nina. People have been saying that she doesn’t deserve to be Ms. America because she is not American. Well shouldn’t Ms. America represent the virtues of America not just where in the world you were born? I have a dream. My dream is for a world where we can all accept each other. A world where no one judges each other because of how they look. A world where we could listen to the teachings of some of the most amazing people in our history like, Martin Luther King Jr., or Abraham Lincoln. Another thing to think about is how we are all taught to be well, nice. The people who are writing these hurtful tweets are really not thinking about Nina’s feelings. I think Nina is a role model for what she believes in and how she’s been handling things said about her.
Ms.Dalvuri is a role model for many people worldwide. So many girls with insecurities look at her and her humbleness and think that they can do exactly what she did. She is also huge in the Indian community. She is Indian newspapers and my friends and I have texted each other pictures and links ever since her win. All of us look up to her and what she stands for. I think she is so amazing and I would love to be able to promote diversity just like her. Another thing so admirable about her is her ability to be a believer. She ignored these hurtful tweets and believes that there can still be a day without racism.
Nina Dalvuri if you are reading this I just want to say you are a huge role model to me and you have already made such a huge mark in history. I look up to you and I really admire your ability to just ignore mean stuff said. All amazing people have haters, but just know you have a group of girls who you are a role model to.
I feel my heart break to see a nation ripped apart by its own greatest strength – it’s diversity.
