Hi again. Today I thought I would talk a little bit about fears. Fears are things that we all have and things that we cannot get rid of. The thing we can do with fears are face them. I like to think of pesky flies. They annoy and stop you from getting where you wanting to go and stop you from enjoying the journey. The one sentence that really will end up summing up this blog is: “90% of people have a fear of something insignificant.”
Fears keep you from doing things that you want to do. For example some people fear things like bees, snakes, lions (me included), but these are things that we have to deal with. We cannot spend our time thinking of things that they would do to us. Let’s say you were walking through a beautiful garden, you would not be able to enjoy the beauty because you would be thinking about bees. This is an example of being afraid of something that clouds your ability to have fun and enjoy the setting that is around you. One of my mottos is YOLO (which all of you should know the meaning of by now), you cannot live if you are just worrying about what MIGHT happen.
Some people fear things that are inevitable. You may be familiar with the book The Fault in Our Stars. If not, it is a tragic love story between young Agustus Waters and Hazel Lancaster. At the beginning of the book something that is talked about is fear of oblivion. They both have cancer so they do know that it is inevitable. Through the book they learn to forget that fear and enjoy what time to live. What is the point of being scared of death now when you are perfectly alive? This again ties back into YOLO.
The last type of fear I would like to talk about is just because you are afraid something is going to happen. My favorite example: Rollercoasters! Duh Duh Duhhhhhh (noise affect in scary movies). This is something people think they are going to die on. The way to overcome this is simply to force yourself on the roller coaster. By doing this you can realize that it is super fun and a total blast to be on. This occurs with so many things like, skydiving, the diving board and much much more.
So, the way I would like to end this blog is a quote by Will Smith: “Fear is a figment of your imagination, but danger, danger is real” This is saying that you have to live a daring life, and have fun. Letting fear rule your life will not help anyone at all.
